[Story] Have YOU seen my present?

(Originally posted April 17, 2012 on the Dollfie Dreams forums)

One Saturday afternoon, Tamayuki was enjoying watching people passing on the street, cats chasing each other in the yard, noisy cars zooming carelessly down the street. He thought it was fun to see, but was very happy that he was safely inside his quiet house.

Mommy: "See anything interesting out there Tamayuki?"

Tamayuki: "Its fun watching bunches of people go up and down our street, but I wish they could be more quiet about it. Even Dolly doesn't make as much noise as they do and he makes a lot." Tamayuki smiled when his mommy giggled.

Mommy: "Well, Dolly sure has the tendency to speak his mind... about everything. Do you need help tying the string on the side of your pants?"

Tamayuki: "No Mommy, boy clothes are supposed to be messy like that, I did it on purpose." He sounded convincing until he brushed off a piece of lint from his shirt. "All boys are messy."

Mommy: "Even ones that get presents?"

Tamayuki: "Do I get a present Mommy?"

Mommy: "Depends, can you find it?"

Tamayuki: "Rainie, Mommy said that I have a present, have you seen it?"

Rainie: "I would help you look for it Tama-chan but I still don't even have my arms. Mama should really get her priorities straight. Getting my body finished, making me lots of clothes that actually fit me, THEN she can go to school!" Rainie looks significantly at her mama, wiggling the eyebrows she doesn't have.

Tamayuki: "Don't worry Rainie, Mommy's trying her best for us. I know she hasn't forgotten because she worries about you." Tamayuki carefully gives his big sister a hug before searching some more for his present.

After much effort, and some climbing, Tamayuki found some more of his friends to ask.

Tamayuki: "Hello there Stumpkin guys. Did you see Mommy with a present? I'm looking for one."

Ralph: "Sorry Tamayuki, I've just been soaking in my teacup. Nope, haven't seen a thing."

Barney: "But I thought I saw..."

Gregie: "Shush Barney! Don't spoil the surprise."

Tamayuki: "Hmm, I still haven't found it Mommy. You are a good hider. Let's see, where haven't I looked yet?"

Tamayuki: "Did you buy me any new patterns? You have so many of them that one of them must be for me..."

Mommy: "Not yet dearheart, but you are getting closer!"

Tamayuki: "Nope, not in here either!"

Mommy giggled at Tamayuki's wiggling toes.

Tamayuki: "Whew, I've looked all over and I still can't find anything that looks like a present."

Dolly: "I know where it is! I know! I know!!" Dollie flailed around in excitement.

Tamayuki: "I found something Mommy! Is this my present?"

Mommy: "Yay, you found him!"

Dolly: "Look, I got a new truck too! Now I can race it around and bash it into things, and play with it in the dirt! Can we go outside now?"

Tamayuki: "Where did you find my present Mommy? He's little just like me and Dolly."

Mommy: " I saw him in the store and he looked kinda sad. I asked him what was wrong and he told me that he wanted a nice little boy to be his owner, just as long as he wouldn't poke him or step on him. I thought he would be perfect for you."

Dolly: "Vroom...VROOM!"

Tamayuki: "He's just the right size for hugs. I think I will call him Perry. After all that searching, its time for a nap."

Dolly: "Trucks are good for hugging too!"

Tamayuki: "Thank you Mommy."

Dolly: "Yah, thanks."

Mommy: "You're welcome boys. Have a good nap."

I finally had a chance to get this story posted! I hope you guys enjoy it. Perry has been around for quite some time now but I didn't want to show him off and spoil the surprise. Perry is the name of a peanut variety, according to Wikipedia, but it was just too cute! Currently he is laying in Tama's bed holding onto a Totoro plushie (from a keychain) that fits perfectly!

Cloudy With A Chance of Rainie

(Originally posted Feb 23, 2012 on the Dollfie Dreams forums)

Although she is far from complete, I couldn't resist finally putting up some pictures of my work in progress DDS Rainie after her wig finally came in.

She's little more than a head, legs and feet (she is being supported by a bamboo cup, a chopstick for her spine, her face hasn't been reshaped yet, and has the wrong size bust...) but she has enough personality to make up for it. When I first started thinking of her I began to wonder what her name was and she popped into my head and informed me that it was Rainie. I attempted to think of a couple other names, although I don't remember them now, this is pretty much how the conversation went:

Me: "I wonder what else I could name you? I like to have options in case I change my mind later."
Rainie: "My name is Rainie."
Me: "How about..."
Rainie: "No, my name is Rainie."
I grumble to myself, feeling a bit put out. "Well then, I'll chose your last name."
Rainie stays silent.
Me: "How about we have the same last name, since you are going to be my daughter?"
Rainie: "No, it's too boring."
Feeling a bit miffed, I suggest the next thing that runs across my mind without thinking. "How about my maiden name then?"
Rainie: "That's great! I want that one!"
I pause for a moment waiting for it to sink in. "You can't be serious Rainie..."
Rainie: "I like it." And with that it was decided. She was beaming and happy and I was mentally groaning. Why? Because she had decided that her name was going to be Rainie Day...  X)

Despite what he name makes her sound like, she has a very sunshine personality. For those who remember Punky Brewster from the 80s, or Ramona Quimby yah, that's what Rainie is like. She wouldn't call herself a tomboy because she just doesn't think about herself that way, and she does like dresses just not ones with lace, ribbons, and froufy stuff. She's more inclined to have bright and bold patterned clothes, being subdued is not in her spunky personality.

Are you under there somewhere Rainie? =))

I really love this wig, it is perfect for her but I wanted the bangs to hang straight so I'll need to trim them. Dealing with Tamayuki's bangs in his eyes all the time is enough, I didn't want to spend even more of my time dealing with hers. She looks cute with them brushed to the side, but it's not her.

She is really going to be fun to have around Tamayuki since she is so spontaneous and outgoing, I'm not even sure she will notice how shy he is. When I first started to wonder how well they would do together, the following image popped up in my head:

Tamayuki was quietly sitting in a corner playing with his dolly keeping to himself like usual. Then Rainie walks in with a pillow from somewhere, heartily kicks it across the room, and continues on her way. Tamayuki merely grins to himself and starts giggling.

I think they will be a great pair, Rainie just being silly and diving headlong into everything, and Tamayuki having someone he can follow and quietly participate in the things he would do on his own if he wasn't so shy.

Yikes! What have I gotten myself into? :D

[Story] Gifts for Tamayuki

(Originally posted March 8, 2012 on the Dollfie Dreams forums)

"Then we went out for ice cream and they put it on a doughnut! I'm not supposed to tell, but Yuriko ate two."

"It was hard climbing back into the box because the tape is really sticky. Rainie stayed behind to make sure they didn't ship the box without us. We promised to take her out for ice cream once she had the rest of her body." Tamayuki was telling his dolly about the trip he had with his new sisters when they were on their way home for their adoption.

"Tamayuki, I have a present for you." His mommy smiled at him with her hands behind her back.

"For me?" Shy Tamayuki looked surprised.

"Yep, just for you. Now close your eyes!"

When dolly heard the boxes being placed on the table he couldn't contain his excitement, even though the gifts weren't for him.

"I want to open this one!" he energetically exclaimed.

"The boxes are so big mommy! The bow is very pretty."

"Now, how do I get this open?" The little man searched for a way to get the package to reveal it's secret.

"Are these really all for me?" His mommy nodded at him happily.

"There must be a latch, or a button, or something..." Dolly grumbled to himself.

"Let me help you with that Tamayuki." Excited over what was in the presents, dolly forgot about the box he had been examining.

"What are these?"

"OOF!" The lid was too heavy for the small man and knocked him over.

"Green stripies, just like a watermelon!"

"Hey! Careful with heavy things like that!"

"How dare you fall on me." With all of his strength, the man went after the guiltless box top.

"Little dinorawers!" Tamayuki giggled delightedly to himself.

"I'll show you!"

"I love dinorawers mommy!"

"So long you stupid lid. I won't let you get the better of me."

"What are these for?" Even though Tamayuki liked his presents so far, he couldn't imagine what to do with them.

"Mommy is going to make you your own quilt to keep you warm because Daddy likes the house to be very cold."

"Is there anything else in here? That can't be all of it..."

"Tamayuki is going to open this one now."

"Woah!" Loosing his footing on the slick surface, the man tumbled headlong into the empty box.

"Ouch..."

Dolly struggled to right himself, continuing to go unnoticed by the distracted little boy.

"More fabric? Is it for more blankies?"

"Fabric? But the box had pictures of chocolates on it!" The startled statement was interjected with the occasional grunt.

"In this family Dolly, it's been a long known rule to never believe what is printed on the box. If the box never lied I would have had a LOT more strange gifts growing up."

"I like the cute owls. It is so fuzzy and it tickles my fingers."

A sigh comes from the box.

"Dolly, what are you doing in there?" Finally Tamayuki notices the trouble the little man is having.

"Tamayuki can help dolly get out."

"Thanks a lot." Slightly miffed from being left to struggle so long against the malicious container, the comment sounded sarcastic.

"That fabric is for a pair of flannel pajamas once I can get some patterns drafted for you Tamayuki."

"I have a slide! Weeeee!"

Tamayuki giggled at his dolly's antics.

"I love all of my presents!"

Reaching the end of his short slide, Dolly crashes into the box.

"Thank you whole bunches Mommy!"

"Ouch. I think I'm done now..."

"I love the dinorawrs, and I love you too Mommy."

"You make me so happy Tamayuki, how could any mommy not love you? Even if I could have all the cutest dinos possible, they still couldn't replace a single Tamayuki."

"Can I go to bed now? My dinorawers are sleepy."

"I think it's more like you just want to snuggle with them!" The pair dissolved into a fit of giggling as the mommy hugged her adorable little boy.

[Story] Happiness on the Doorstep

Even though these have already been posted on the forums, I'm reposting them here so my family (especially my niece Angelia) can easily find and read the "goings on" in our doll family. It is so much easier to read the stories than trying to explain them. XD

With a noisy rumble out on the street in front of the house, heavy footsteps tramping across the wooden deck, and a firm knock on the front door, a brown box arrived.

A little guy wanders around on the table, examining the large box. "Ha! It must be full of packing peanuts to make sure my nice box didn't get smashed. This is a perfect for my house if I just turn it over this way..." Walking the length of the box, the miniature figure critically examined his new house.

"Well now, I'm going to need to get some paint since someone inconsiderately slapped this bright orange sticker on my new home!" discontent grumbling came from the figure as he went in search for some scissors.

"This should do the trick, just need to wedge it in here..." Firmly the sharp blades slipped between the cardboard flaps, cleanly cutting the tape.

"Remodeling and moving into a new house sure is a lot of work!" The little guy knelt down with a sigh, momentarily resting before getting back to his task.

"Now just lift these flaps a bit and I can get to cleaning out all those peanuts!" Inwardly the little chap was glad that no one was there to watch him struggle against the strong cardboard.

A happy yelp escaped as he discovered sheets of bubble wrap tucked away inside. "This will be great to make myself a couch or a bed out of, but too bad it won't work for making myself some better pants. One thing at a time I guess."

"It might make me a really great winter coat too. I'll be a fashion sensation across the world!"

Full of determination the little gent cleared out the interior of his home, finding may strange and unexpected things inside. "What is this, a bear skin rug?"

"Ahhhh! The tribble is trying to eat me!" Random giggles and snickers could be heard from underneath the fuzzy mound that now covered the upper half of the small figure.

"Yep, looks like this will just about fit!" Humming joyfully as he uncovered more housewarming gifts, the small guy was feeling very pleased with himself for finding such a great deal on this prime real estate.

"I wonder what is in here? I sure looks like a nice cooler. I could use a few sandwiches by now." Enthusiastically he pulled the lid from the small box.

"Ewwww gross! Why would someone put eyeballs in a perfectly good cooler?" Quickly the lid was replaced and the short man realized he wasn't as hungry as he thought he was.

"Alas poor Yorick, I never knew thee well, but you know, things could be worse. There are those individuals that would cause you to suffer the slings and arrows of a merciless volley of heady puns. But that, my sweet prince, is not to be your fate, for you are a fishmonger!"

"Now that I have my own human suit, I can take over the world, right Pinky?" Giddy laughter came from the tiny figure as he plotted his world domination.

"At last he LIVES! Let's make haste Igorstein, my house needs to be furnished before our evil plans can begin." A mouse like murmur came from the large figure, not even loud enough to be understood.

"Eh?" the diminutive man only let the noise invade into his wild plotting because it was such a curious sound from something so big.

"My name is Tamayuki." And without warning the little guy was being attacked.

"I have always wanted a dolly all of my own, and you seam like a really nice dolly." the small man couldn't fight against such overwhelming snuggles, his plans to overtake the planet were temporarily put on hold as the gentle giant's arms held him.

"I think my new mommy will let me keep you too, you won't eat much, and I will read to you almost every night. That would make me happy, then I would always have someone to play with. Already my new home has everything that I had been wishing for, but best of all is the people who love me."

Perhaps being trapped by such cuteness wasn't such a bad thing, the miniature man began to think to himself.

A few hours, and a couple stories later, Tamayuki listened to his new dolly quietly snoring.

"Goodnight my dolly. Tomorrow we will have lots of fun together, I promise."
